Hospitals across the country are working with the PPA which aims to educate social workers and case managers as well as register people with limited income to receive free or nearly free prescriptions that help them fight illness and disease. This effort is to offer training for professionals and a single point of access to the more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs. Social workers, case managers and other professionals are invited to the PPA mobile learning station to learn how to assist those in need. The PPA staff will also help individuals qualify for the programs. The visit to Madison County is one of many locations in the country where the PPA staff is increasing awareness of the program and boosting enrollment among those who are eligible to receive prescription assistance. The PPA is a group of pharmaceutical companies, doctors, hospitals and patient advocates that created a means for providing medicine to patients who do not have prescription coverage and are having trouble affording their medicines. Huntsville Hospital, a not for profit hospital serving a population of one million, is the largest non-academic healthcare provider in Alabama and the only regional referral center in north Alabama and south central Tennessee. ##
