Be Ready Day
Time: 10:00am - 3:00pm CST
Location: Space and Rocket Center
Hosted by: The Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (GFBCI)

This annual statewide community preparedness event will feature education and training on disaster preparedness and emergency response, volunteer opportunities across the state, and first responder demonstrations with thrilling equipment displays.

By partnering with the Alabama Department of Homeland Security (ADHS), Be Ready Day will highlight a number of homeland security measures and equipment demonstrations, as well as emphasize the role of the individual in preventing and responding to any natural or man made disaster through participation in Citizen Corps (www.citizencorps.gov).

Governor Bob Riley will be speaking at 1:00 PM about the importance of preparedness as well as to honor the 80 Madison County 6th graders participating in Alabama's first Be Ready Camp. This recognition will conclude three days of acquiring hands on skills and knowledge that they can bring back to their families and communities. For more info, contact:

Alabama Leaders in Volunteer Efforts
Time: 12:00pm - 1:00pm CST
Location: United Way offices, Andrew Jackson Way
ALIVE (Alabama Leaders in Volunteer Efforts) is a free networking and learning opportunity for non-profit service providers who work with volunteers. These brown-bag luncheons are designed to give participants an opportunity to discuss issues related to volunteers and to share solutions with one another.
