Madison County Family Friendly Business Award Winners

The Volunteer Center, Ternion Corporation, Miltec, and Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation received Family Friendly Business Awards on Tuesday. The awards program recognizes nonprofit groups and businesses for programs and policies that help employees balance work and family responsibilities.

The winner in the not for profit category, The Volunteer Center, closely partners with other agencies and local companies to provide information to all employees on services available in the community to help reduce family stress and encourage healthy living.

Ternion Corporation received the award in the category for a business of 50 or less employees. This company provides accommodating work schedules and 100% company paid medical and dental benefits. Speakers are brought in to lead seminars that help educate employees on family issues.

Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation won in the category for a business of 50 – 150 employees. Intuitive provides programs such as compressed work week, on-site healthy breakfast options, tuition reimbursement, and lunch and learn sessions for employees that cover family issues.

The winner in the category for businesses of 150 – 350 employees was Miltec. This company welcomes seminars that inform and educate their employees on family life issues. Also, when schools close unexpectedly early, employees are encouraged to bring their children to work where Miltec sets aside a special room for them and plays videos.

The 2007 awards were sponsored by the National Children’s Advocacy Center, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, and the North Alabama Society for Human Resource Management.
