This session will take a deep dive into the issues of burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma experienced by so many in the child maltreatment field. Mathieu will offer a concrete action plan to identify early warning signs and predictable pitfalls while offering strategies for child maltreatment professionals.
Mathieu is the author of “The Compassion Fatigue Workbook”, published by Routledge in 2012, as well as several articles and publications. She has more than 20 years experience as a mental health professional working as a crisis counselor and trauma specialist in university, military, law enforcement, and community mental health environments.
Mathieu has presented to members of St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, the LAPD, Mount Sinai Hospital, the Chief Coroner’s Office in Ontario and many other agencies dealing with high-stress, trauma-exposed work.
