Huntsville, AL – National Children’s Advocacy Center Executive Director Chris Newlin, MS, LPC, has been selected to serve on the State Victim Assistance Academy (SVAA) Resource Center’s National Advisory Board. The SVAA Resource Center provides national training and technical assistance to support SVAAs across the country.

The Office for Victims of Crime created the SVAA Resource Center in October 2015.  It is a collaboration of the National Center for Victims of Crime and Organizational Resilience International.

As a member of the SVAA Advisory Board, Newlin will assist with training and education of victim advocates and provide expertise in emerging needs, research, and resources for the victim services field. “This is such an important part of our mission at the National Children’s Advocacy Center. Victim Advocates are vital to the healing process, therefore providing them the training and support they need is a top priority, ” said Newlin. “This opportunity will not only strengthen our relationship with like-minded organizations, but will give us new insight into this rapidly developing field, ultimately benefiting children across the world.”

The State of Alabama, led by the Attorney General’s Office, is currently working to develop a SVAA for Alabama with hopes it will launch in 2019.

The NCAC Training Center offers training specifically designed for Victim Advocates. The intensive, three day course at the National Children’s Advocacy Center provides advocates with skills they need to handle crisis intervention, court preparation, and support for the families they serve.
