Huntsville, AL – The NCAC Training Center is announcing dates and locations for open registration trainings in 2019. These classes will take place at the National Children’s Advocacy Center in Huntsville, AL; Kiawah Island, SC; Santa Fe, NM; and Burlington, VT.

Trainer Andra Chamberlin, M.A. addresses a class of forensic interviewers at the NCAC Training Center in Huntsville, Alabama

The NCAC Training Center will offer eight opportunities for professionals in the child maltreatment field to attend Forensic Interviewing of Children. This course is intended for professionals with less than 2 years experience conducting forensic interviews of children, tenured child abuse professionals looking to sharpen existing skills, and professionals who want to learn the current NCAC Child Forensic Interview Structure.

Forensic Interviewing of Children Training dates are as follows:

  • February 11-15, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • April 8-12, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • June 10-14, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • July 22-26, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • September 16-20, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • October 21-25, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • November 4-8, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • December 9-13, 2019 – Huntsville, AL

Advanced Forensic Interviewing, a course designed for experienced forensic interviewers will be offered twice:

  • April 23-25, 2019 – Kiawah Island, SC
  • October 1-3, 2019 – Sante Fe, NM

Extended Forensic Interviewing will also be offered twice in 2019. This course is designed for forensic interviewers with knowledge of child development, the impact of trauma on memory and development and the dynamics of child abuse. Extended Forensic Interviewing dates are as follows:

  • June 25-27, 2019 – Burlington, VT
  • November 13-15, 2019 – Huntsville, AL

Interviewing Vulnerable Victims training focuses on children who are especially at risk for abuse. The training focuses on interview challenges with an emphasis on interviewing strategies and adaptations. This training will be offered April 16-18, 2019 at the NCAC Training Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Victim Advocacy training includes a group art project designed to promote creativity while developing coping skills.

Victim Advocacy Training is designed for the Victim Advocates who work with children and families within a Child Advocacy Center setting. While focusing on the work and support provided by the advocate, this course also includes sessions on trauma, grief, and secondary trauma.

Victim Advocacy Training dates are as follows:

  • February 26-28, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • August 27-29, 2019 – Huntsville, AL
  • October 1-3, 2019 – Huntsville, AL

 

Forensic Interviews at Trial: Preparation and Presentation Training is for prosecutors and forensic interviewers. This course hones the skills needed to successfully present testimony and strategically counter common defense tactics during child abuse trials. This training is scheduled for May 8-9, 2019 at the NCAC Training Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

The NCAC Training Center also offers customized trainings on location as well as international training and consultation.
