Research at NCAC

The mission of the NCAC Research Department is to integrate research and practice in the field of child maltreatment through the dissemination of information on the development and evaluation of model programs.

The National Children's Advocacy Center Research Department conducts applied research on programs, practices, and policies that impact professional training and family services for prevention, intervention and treatment of child abuse. The NCAC seeks to model and promote excellence in child abuse response and prevention. At the NCAC, the Research Department works with Training, Prevention, Investigative and Clinical Services to integrate research and practice in the field of child maltreatment. NCAC researchers direct program evaluations and original research projects that examine the impact of child maltreatment on family and community systems and on individual child and adolescent development. We work with universities, private and public agencies, and child advocates worldwide to promote evidence-based practices that empower and respect children and their families.

NCAC conducts several research projects as members of the National Evaluation of Child Advocacy Centers (NECAC) and National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), including applied research on models of intervention with children, perpetrators and non-offending caregivers and on forensically sensitive models of therapy for children. We also conduct program evaluation studies for NCAC programs as well as for other social service agencies throughout the community.
