COVID RESPONSE

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event and we appreciate the healthcare workers, emergency personnel, and governments around the world who are on the front line working to contain the coronavirus.  The NCAC is monitoring the rapidly evolving situation and has implemented precautions to protect not only our employees and MDT members, but also our direct service clients, donors, and training customers.

The campus will continue to be closed to all walk-in visitors. The Training and Community Services buildings will continue to be closed to the public; however, the Children’s Building will be increasing their staffing to accommodate additional therapy intakes and forensic interviews as described below. Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates and tips for families and caregivers.

Information for Clients:

Upon arrival to the NCAC, all clients and caregivers must calle 256-327-3853 before entering the building. All paperwork will be filled out in the car to limit the time inside the Children’s Building.

  • Anyone entering the building will answer these COVID-19 exposure screening questions:
    • Have you been in close contact with a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19?
    • Have you had a fever greater than 100.4 degrees in the last 48 hours?
    • Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath or sore throat?
    • Have you experienced new loss of taste or smell?
    • Have you experienced vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?
    • Are you “not feeling well” overall?
  • Anyone entering the building will undergo a temperature check.
  • Anyone entering the building will sign in at the front desk.
  • Masks will be worn at all times in the building. If a guest does not have a mask, one will be provided at no cost.
  • Waiting areas will be restricted to two families at a time. Families must stay on opposite sides of the lobby.

Individuals who do not pass the prescreening COVID related questions, or who have a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees will not be permitted to enter the building and will be asked to leave the NCAC campus.

Healthy Families clients will continue to be contacted by Family Support Workers by telephone or text. Virtual visits will continue to be conducted using Zoom and telephone video chats. Doorstep delivery of necessities will continue as needed.

Partnership in Parenting clients will continue to be contacted on a weekly basis and sessions conducted via telephone or Zoom.

Parenting Classes will continue to be conducted virtually using Zoom as the platform. If you have questions about NCAC Parenting Classes, please contact Tara Bah at tbah@nationalcac.org.

Information for Professionals

NCAC and SRCAC have suspended all in-person trainings until further notice.  Many trainings are being converted to a virtual format.  Information on our website about trainings will be updated soon.

 Professionals can continue training through the NCACvtc, a virtual training center with more than 100 free online trainings.

RACIAL INEQUITY

The National Children’s Advocacy Center has a foundational belief that all children should be protected from abuse, and those who experience child abuse should have access to quality services to help them heal from this experience no matter the color of their skin, the language they speak, their religious beliefs, or any other means of categorizing them.  They are children who have experienced harm and deserve these services.  It is from this same foundational perspective that the NCAC strongly condemns any form of racism. 

Our world is in a sad and emotionally charged space.  Racial inequity and disparities remain in society.  It is important to recognize that silence is no longer acceptable. It is time to act, starting with educating ourselves about all forms of racism locally and nationally. We are calling for change. True change. A growing chorus of people of all colors who stand together with united voices to demand fairness and equality for all peoples including the children we serve.  Together we will, can and must do better.
