Hundreds of child abuse response and prevention professionals attended the 40th International Symposium on Child Abuse March 18-21 at the VBC.

The conference kicked off with three pre-conference workshops on March 17, followed by the Opening Plenary. The Opening Plenary featured speakers including NCAC Founder and Former Congressman Bud Cramer, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Administrator Liz Ryan, and Forensic Pediatrician Dr. Sharon Cooper.

More than 1200 attendees from 47 stats and 9 countries attended this Symposium. The conference included more than 165 workshops and 44 exhibitors.

In addition to the workshops, the NCAC hosted local stakeholders at a luncheon featuring Handle with Care co-founder Andrea Darr. Handle with Care is a program that links emergency responders with school-based counselors in the event of a traumatic experience involving a school age child. The NCAC is working to implement the program state-wide. Madison City Schools, Madison Police, and Madison Fire became the first jurisdiction in Alabama to sign on to the program.

The NCAC also hosted attendees for an evening of BBQ, music, and networking at the Huntsville campus. The Backyard BBQ and campus tour is an event attendees look forward to every year.
